Why You Should Learn to Play Golf

If you are wondering what the benefits are to learning how to play golf, then I’m willing to bet that you fall into one of the following categories:

1. Someone has suggested golf to you as a sport you might enjoy; or,

2. You are feeling some social pressure from others, e.g., colleagues at work.

In the first case, you just have to find out whether golf would be fun for you or not. In the second case, my guess is that you feel it necessary to learn golf so you can join in on the ‘bonding’ and ‘networking’ experience, even if golf doesn’t excite you all that much.

So, if you need some ‘convincing’, then read on! There are plenty of good reasons to learn golf, and you’ll find them here.

Reason #1: Mental Focus

Golf is a game of focus and strategy. You use your mind, your senses and your ability to time and coordinate movements at every step of the game.

Golf is not a game of brute physical strength the way some other sports are. In fact, the stronger you are, the more you’ll probably have to work on containing and directing that strength when it comes time to hit the ball.

The best players are those who have learn to still their minds and visualize making that perfect swing. It may look easy from the outside, but there is actually a lot of ‘multi-tasking’ going in the mind of a golfer.

You learn to judge distances and correlate those distances with the amount of force to apply in your swing. At the same time, you must aim your swing and account for any factors that might change the direction of the ball.

Believe it or not, training yourself to focus in this way will have useful applications not just in other sport, but in other areas of your life. If nothing else, it teaches you to take a step back and calculate all of the variables standing between you and a goal.

Reason #2: Low-impact Exercise

You can actually get a great work-out by playing golf.

How?

First, consider the motion of a full-on golf swing. Even if you’re in tip-top shape, you’re probably going to feel sore in your arms, shoulders, lower back and maybe even your abdomen the day after your first round of swinging that club.

Next, consider that each hole on a given course can be separated by anywhere from 200 to over 700 yards, with varying types of terrain. Unless you rent a cart, you’re going to be walking those yards and lugging around a bag full of clubs to boot!

All that walking is a great, low-impact work-out for your entire body.

Reason #3: Respect

Golf is also a game of respect — for the rules as well as other players. Some would say that golf is the most ‘civilized’ or ‘dignified’ of sports. Even though you may want to ‘best’ your ‘competitors’, the person you’re really playing against is yourself.

There are no ‘tackles’ in golf, and there is no ‘stealing of plays’. Everyone takes his or her turn in an orderly fashion, and keeps an eye out on the location of other players at all times so as not to strike them with a club or bean them with a stray golf ball.

Reason #4: Business and networking

This is probably what many people think of when they think of golf: wealthy and/or connected individuals making sweetheart deals over 18 holes at the country club.

It’s a stereotype, but one with a lot of truth to it.

Golf was once a sport strictly of the upper-classes in Scotland and England. Even in the United States, many of the best greens were connected to exclusive country clubs that the average person couldn’t access without knowing someone on the inside.

Thankfully, in this day and age, golf is a much more inclusive and accessible past-time for the average person, as well as anyone else looking for an informal activity to share with friends, clients, partners, colleagues, etc.

You can hold relatively private conversations while playing golf, and you don’t have to change into a uniform to play, either. In fact, you can play golf in a business suit if need be, although you’ll probably want to take off your jacket!

Those are the four biggest reasons I can think of for why you should learn to play golf. If you still aren’t convinced, then rent a set of clubs and do a few practice rounds on a local course. You just might enjoy it after all, once you get the ‘swing’ of it!

Kenya has about 40 golf courses-more than any other African Country except South Africa. And the balmy climate of Kenya could have been made especially for the game. In fact, Kenya has all the right ingredients to rival the Mediterranean as a winter golf destination.

History of Golf in Kenya

The history of golf in Kenya goes back a long way, with one club in Nairobi due to celebrate its centenary in 2006. Locally, the game is thriving as never before. Young and gifted Kenyan golf players are starting to compete internationally at the highest levels.

But it is only comparatively recently that Kenya as a nation has woken up to the fact that its magnificent golfing inheritance is, in fact, a valuable commodity that can and should be marketed overseas. What’s more, several of the Kenyan top golf courses have been refurbished or upgraded in recent times.

What Golfing in Kenya offers:

For the lovers of the game, Kenyan Golf offers:

o	Un-crowded and mostly well maintained courses.

o	Comparatively inexpensive green fees and associated playing costs.

o	A perfect climate during Europe’s winter months.

o	Hotel accommodation of a high standards that is also reasonably priced.

o	Frequent flights to Nairobi from Europe and the Far East.

o	Manu excellent courses in and around Nairobi, at 100metres above sea level, but even more within two hours’ drive of the capital

1. Muthaiga Kenyan Golf Club

Of the nation’s 40 or so courses, probably the best known is the Muthaiga Golf Club, home to the Kenya Open and founded in 1913. The Kenyan golf course is popular with the locals at the weekends, but it is comparatively easy to play on weekdays. Muthaiga has recently undergone a major refurbishment to lengthen some holes and tighten other aspects of the golf course.

2. Windsor Kenyan Golf Hotel & Country Club

Other good Kenyan golf courses in the Nairobi area are Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club and the Royal Nairobi. Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club is unique to Kenya. Set amid coffee plantations, it consists of a large luxury hotel overlooking its own golf course. The Kenyan golf course itself has some of the trickiest holes and is not for the faint hearted or those a little wayward off the tee.

As such, Windsor golf course is a stiff test for any golfer. There is plenty of water around, not to mention some blind greens, a do-or-die 14th hole and an 18th hole that is capable of wrecking any card.

Like Muthaiga, the Royal Nairobi Golf Club is a golf course with strong colonial ties. Establishes in 1906, this is Kenya’s oldest golf course.

3. Railway Kenyan Golf Club

Along with the Railway Golf Club, it is located right in town. AT 6,600 meters off the back tees, the Royal Nairobi is a testing course. Both the club house and the golf course have been refurbished recently.

Slightly further from Nairobi, but certainly no less interesting, are golf courses such as Karen, Limuru and Sigona.

4. Karen Kenyan Golf Club

The 6,630 meter Karen Golf Club, in the Ngong Hills, proved a worthy alternative venue for the 2004 Kenya Open. This is an admirably maintained course with a well connected membership, strong traditions, high standards and strict dress code.

5. Sigona Kenyan Golf Club

About 40 minutes out of Nairobi, on the Nakuru Road, is the recently upgraded Sigona Golf Club. This course is greatly favoured by local golf players and enjoys a moderate climate. Its par-71, 6015 meter golf course is suitable for players of all levels and its fairways are among the best kept in Kenya.

6. Limuru Kenyan Country Club

Located a similar distance from Nairobi is the par-71, 6,020 metre Limuru Country Club. At 2,330 meters, the Limuru is high above level and receives more rainfall than most other courses. Its greens and fairways are particularly lush, even in the dry season. This well maintained Kenyan golf course is a delight to play, but at this altitude players may need a sweater for early morning and evening rounds.

7. The Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort

The Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort at Naivasha is about 2,150metres above sea level and consists of a par-72, 6,073 metre course with some of the best views in Kenya. This is not the toughest golf course in the Kenya, but what it lacks in difficulty it more than makes up for by its sheer charm and beauty.

8. Many Other 9 and 18 hole Golf Courses near Nairobi

Apart from those already mentioned, there are nine-hole and 18-hole Kenyan golf courses dotted all around the highland areas above Nairobi. Some are in excellent condition, while others probably require some improvement before it would be worth traveling long distances to play golf.

Golfing at the Kenyan Coast

On the coast, meanwhile, visitors can expect a tropical atmosphere in terms of climate and playing conditions. There is a choice of two fine courses, Leisure Golf Club and the Nyali Golf Club, with rumours of new Kenyan golf courses to come in the area.

9. Leisure Golf Club in the Kenyan South Coast

The unforgiving Leisure Golf Club at Ukunda, on Mombasa’s South Coast, has tight fairways, good quality greens and is in good order thanks to some new grass-cutting equipment. The 6,084 metre golf course is open to non- hotel guests and visitors can expect a warm welcome at the club house.

10. Nyali Golf Club in the Kenyan North Coast

North of Mombasa, the Nyali Golf Club offers a more traditional set-up. This Kenyan golf course is a fair test for any golfer, while the club house has a reputation for excellent food.

Better Winter Golfing in Kenya than in Mediterranean

Whatever Kenyan golf course or courses you decide to play in Kenya, you are bound to be pleasantly surprised by what you find. In fact, compared with the Mediterranean in winter, there really is no contest.

Why You Should Think about Single Length Golf Clubs – Sports

If you spend considerably time all around golfers you have in all probability heard Single Length Golf Clubs talked about, or have witnessed a group standing all around gawking at a set on the driving assortment. I had heard really a bit about them, lots of speak in the club home and driving variety, but the details all seemed a tiny confusing to me. So I determined to conduct my very own investigation and see what I could discover out single length golf clubs, and get the straight scoop on regardless of whether they had been something the starting golfer really should consider getting. What Are Single Length Golf Clubs? The length of regular golf clubs varies between clubs, typically there is &frac12 inch distinction constructed into the set. So for example, the length of your 8 Iron is &frac12 inch shorter than your 7 Iron. Single length golf clubs do away with these differences so your whole set is the similar length, your 5 Iron is the similar length as your 7 Iron as your 9 Iron. In reality, single length golf clubs have the very same club length, the same swing weight, present the similar momentum, and the very same shaft flex throughout a set of golf clubs. Why are Standard Clubs Various Lengths? This is the clear question that we all ask when thinking about whether single length golf clubs make sense for us. Ironically, just before the introduction of steel shafts into the sport of golf all clubs have been built the same length. Hickory shafts were the shaft of option through this time period and each and every set of clubs was custom created for every golfer primarily based upon their individual needs, their wrist to floor static measurements. Effectively, as you can picture building clubs in this manner was incredibly time consuming and incredibly high priced, and require that a particular person had measurable wealth to afford a set of hickory shaft clubs. The introduction of steel into golf permitted the golf shafts to be developed mechanically, at a substantial volume and lower cost than the hickory golf shafts allowed. Big sporting goods businesses jumped into the golf market eager to provide loads of inexpensive steel shaft clubs. There was a single dilemma nonetheless, these producers could not make single length custom fitting to their consumers but rather, needed to mass generate 1000′s and thousands of homogenous clubs. The answer was to produce clubs with a &frac12 inch difference in length…the pondering currently being that at least a couple of clubs may match their prospects. So the irony is that standard clubs differ in length because of a manufacturing choice that was produced nearly 80 years ago.Which Clubs Are Much better: Standard or Single Length?I apologize in advance, but I feel the solution is “it depends”. I you want to find out how to play golf like Tiger Woods, paying for either set of golf clubs will in all probability not deliver this dream. And speaking of Tiger Woods, he appears to play alright with conventional golf clubs. Certain, certain the argument could be manufactured that he would play even better with a set of single length clubs…but no one knows the solution to that argument. So here goes, if you are joyful with your latest clubs or have played the game for a number of years and are comfortable with the standard incremental shaft lengths I see no cause to switch. It is a small like the most current Driver or Putter that hits the market place. Certain there are functions of the clubs that may well enable boost a golfer’s game, but much more usually than not the club isn’t the Holy Grail and will not make you a champion overnight. If you are not in the market place for a new set of clubs then I would not advise you run out and acquire a set of single length golf clubs. What quite a few folks don’t know is that these clubs have been close to for a extended time. Commercially they have been offered back in the 1980′s when Tommy Armour golf produced them underneath the name EQL irons. The golf clubs were common but the firm located it difficult to make these custom clubs in the face of a reduced cost/higher volume surroundings.Which leads us to factors that you may possibly want to attempt these clubs, you are in the marketplace for a set of custom fitted clubs. Single length golf clubs expense far more than a common set you pull off of a shop shelf, and are comparable in price tag to custom fitted clubs. So, if you are arranging to make an overhaul to your equipment or are just getting into the golf market and are thinking about the Custom Club route…then single length clubs might be just the answer for you.The Rewards of Single Length Golf ClubsOk, so let’s get down to it. Why really should you consider buying a set of single length golf clubs? What are they going to do for your game? Producers of these identical length clubs claim two main benefits improved distance and enhanced consistency. What golfer would not want to see improvement in these locations of their golf game? I certainly would! The marketing materials claims an raise in distance of five yards for just about every club in the bag, achieved from only obtaining one particular swing for each and every iron and consequently tremendously rising muscle memory. This deeply ingrained swing becomes a great deal additional repeatable than the swing(s) essential with standard clubs, your confidence boost, and you see tremendously increased ball striking which all adds up to better distance.According to 1 Iron Golf a foremost producers of single length golf clubs, golfers employing their golf clubs will see the following benefits:&middot Greater power and distance.&middot Severe ball striking improvement.&middot Gorgeous accuracy and manage.&middot Mid/High handicapper: common 10 stroke reduction in handicaps.&middot Reduced handicapper: the dramatic enhance in swing consistency eliminates these final number of strokes bringing handicaps down to Callaway FT i-Brid Irons zero and below. All of this investigation leads me to think that single length golf clubs are really worth trying out for yourself to decide whether they would benefit your Callaway X-22 Irons golf game, now if only somebody could fix my putting.

Although a golf caddy is a traditional part of golf, someone who carries the golfer’s bag and gives him/her invaluable tips and insights into the game, gone are the days when caddies used to carry the golf bags around. These days most golfers in amateur golf carry their own bags or drive around in golf carts.

While being a player your body goes through great tension while playing an eighteen hole, the added pressure of carrying a bag may have its own toll on you. This is why you must zero in on a golf bag that is designed well, can be carried well, serves your necessities and last but not the least matches your style.

Golf bags are available from the sports suppliers to designers like Christian Dior. You may even have your golf bag tailor made as per your requirement. In general there are three types of golf bags.

Carry Bag: Also known as travel bags, these are the smallest and are made of light material for example plastic or nylon. If you carry your bag while you play, these bags come handy with few basic pockets for clubs and balls. Travel bags also have stands and back straps so that the bag can stand up when you are playing and that you can carry it on your back. There are different sizes and shapes of carry bags and come in different price ranges.

Tour Bags: Also known as staff bags, these are the largest of the golf bags. It can store the complete set of fourteen golf cubs and suitable for serious golfers and professionals. Generally caddies carry tour bags as these weigh considerably. Tour bags are expensive and are generally made of leather.

Cart Bags: Cart bags are relatively smaller than tour bags and are perfect for golf carts. These have less space than tour bags but more than the carry bags. But cart bags are bulkier than carry bags.

How do know which one to buy?

Let’s look at certain features that are indispensable in golf bags while you choose one to buy.

o In golf bags when it comes to pockets – the more, the merrier. You will need pockets for your golf balls, your towels, your divot tool, extra tees, an umbrella and not to mention your golf clubs.

o You may want to have a golf bag with a hood to protect your clubs, etc in the event of a rain.

o How well compartmentalized is your golf bag? You wouldn’t want your golf clubs tugging for space and wearing off the grips in the process. Compartments for different clubs will help in keeping your golf bag organized.

o Whether your golf bag has a stand or not could also be a deciding factor. It is always easier to pick up a club from a bag that can stand on its own while you are playing.

o Finally don’t forget the style factor. Let your golf bag sport your color and pattern.

Yes, golf bags are a must if you are planning to take up golf. You can start of with a carry bag and progress to a staff bag later. Enjoy your golf without hurting your back by sporting the correct golf bag!

Tennis can be learned by anyone. Whether it’s a kid, a teen or an adult who wants to learn tennis, then so be it. It’s so easy. So for anyone of you who is beginning at this sport, one thing you can do to learning tennis is to rent a tennis video and watch it. Or you may watch real players live, or even hire someone to teach you for real. To learn tennis, you may also do some research on the web, or buy a book about it, or simply watch a match in person if you get to have a chance.

One critical point a player must be informed of, as he tries to learn tennis, is about mental and physical strength. Physical strength can be achieved through consistent exercise which can develop your upper body strength, be better at doing your side to side movement, and increase your speed. Mental strength on the other hand, is all about inspiration and motivation. A player should be constantly inspired and motivated to be better at their chosen sport. It can be tough when you’re out there in court and as a player you need all the help you can get. If you’re a beginner player, and once you are already familiar with the basics on how to learn tennis, the next step would be to begin playing the game. One of the basic things you can apply when trying to learn tennis is to know about getting the right racket, which is the lightweight kind, and with a head that’s just the right size and not too big. With it, you can hit the ball right at the center of the head. Doing so, you will have more control on your swing and your hits will have such power. Also, by the time you need to change to a regular, more professional racket, you won’t have a difficult time getting used to it.

Another thing to think about in trying to learn tennis is to also be consistent with your footwork. This keeps the player moving and constant movement is good for the game. Movement can contribute to increase in speed and better control.

All these are just simple ways to apply when you try to learn tennis. They make the game less strenuous and more enjoyable. And in the long run, as you get used to it, you can advance to higher lessons and eventually become a great tennis player.

As far as golf magazine in circulation goes, Golf Digest remains the most widely read monthly golf magazine. Made available in print by an American media company Advance Publications, this monthly digest concerns itself on golf topics in general flavor. While Advance Publications do circulate specialized golf digests like Golf for Women, Golf World, and Golf Business, Golf Digest remains their flagship when it comes to the golf arena.

Golf Digest is perhaps better known for its rankings of “America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses” that featured the best golf course to be found worldwide. It was a colossal idea, as one researcher stated, since it promotes those major sponsorships and arrangements at the same time made Golf Digest readily feasible to the reading public if only the information for the best golf course was the collective interest.

Either case, Golf Digest’s rankings of “America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses” proved to be very successful. So successful was it that ultimately, Golf Digest’s biennial rankings are regarded as an actual basis rate as far as every golf course go since its inception at 1985. The Golf Digest’s ratings are considered legitimate too, since the entries are voted on by a board of several distinguished golf experts. The most successful qualifier is the Pine Valley Golf Club, who topped the list every time except on the 2001 ranking.

Golf Digest also produces lists of the best new courses, the best golf resorts, and the best golf course in each state.

Golf Digest Magazine offers tips and secrets in golf equipment, starter instructions an techniques explained in articles and even an instructional video, news and top stories about the present and recent tours, feature articles on just about anything but regarding golf, travel suggestions towards the best golf courses, and of course -Tiger Woods. Golf Digest can also be accessed by web http://www.golfdigest.com, where online golfing content are available for browsing.

Golf Digest became a branded circulation because it covers comprehensive issues about golf. A few other golf magazines feature comprehensive critiques, commentary, issues, reports, rumors, and stories about golf, all mixed in a flavorful manner. Golf Digest subscription is offered at $14.97 and the first time customer receives two risk free trial issues along with two free tips booklets. If you are interested, call 800-727-4653 which is toll free in the US and Canada.

For those who want to interested, here’s the top 10 of the 100 Greatest Golf Courses for the 2005 – 2006 list.

1. Pine Valley Golf Club of New Jersey

2. Augusta National Golf Club of Georgia

3. Shinnecock Hills Golf Club of New York
